Senator Mukhail Adetokunbo Abiru the Chairman, Senate Committee on Industries paid a courtesy visit to the Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola at his office in Abuja.
The visit by the Senator representing Lagos East Senatorial District was aimed at showing appreciation to the Minister for his efforts on two federal roads in the constituent.
The 32 km Ikorodu-Itoikin Road has been approved by the Federal Executive Council for complete rehabilitation, and work is ongoing on the 30 km Ikorodu-Sagamu Road.
Mr. Fashola confirmed the approval and assured that work will commence on the road rehabilitation in January 2023. He also assured that the work will be completed before the end of the Buhari-led administration.
The rehabilitation of these roads was brought to reality through Abiru’s intervention after he moved a motion at the legislative arm in 2021. He highlighted the importance of the two roads to the nation’s economic development, stating its connection with other states in Nigeria and the new Lekki-Ibeju corridor where the Lagos Deep Seaport and the Free Trade Zone are located.
Before Senator Abiru’s intervention, Ikorodu-Sagamu road, which was awarded on 5th June 2018 to Messrs Arab Contractors O.A.O. Nigeria Limited, with a completion period of 36 months only attained 24.04% completion due to paucity of funding. However, the current intervention by the Senator has ensured the advancement of the 30-km Road to about 85% completion.
