Senator Abiru Innovation Lab cohort sets to pitch business ideas to investors

The Senator Abiru Innovation Lab (SAIL) is set to hold a pitch event for the pioneer cohort of the ‘Business 101’ programme for artisans and creatives.

SAIL was conceived by the Senator representing Lagos East Senatorial District, Tokunbo Abiru in partnership with Co-creation Hub (Cc-Hub). It is a dedicated innovation & tech lab that is providing relevant technology, business and digital skills to teach enthusiasts and young entrepreneurs across the District.

The Business 101 for Artisans and Creatives by SAIL was designed to help talented creatives and artisans in the categories of fashion, design and crafts in Lagos East Senatorial District with participants drawn from its six Local Government Areas — Ikorodu, Somolu, Kosofe, Epe and Ibeju Lekki.

The target creatives and artisans are exposed to class activities and experiential learning to foster their understanding of running a business and securing sales by applying basic entrepreneurial principles while leveraging on technology.

The pioneer cohort of the programme will hold their “Demo Day” on Friday, June 3, with the trainees expected to pitch their business ideas to a panel of business professionals for seed funding and mentorship.

Meanwhile, the programme aims to achieve the following: increase the overall business performance of beneficiaries, facilitate the scaling up of small businesses through seed funding and loans, and provide business support services to programme beneficiaries through mentorship.

Other include pitch business solution to Angel Investors and Pre-seed VC, validate business idea and test product market fit, access free workspace (co-working) with power, Internet, and meeting spaces and access SAIL Alumni and Partner/Sponsors Networks.

In a related development, SAIL has announced the second cohort of the Business 101 Programme for artisans and creatives, aimed at helping them better understand how to use technology to improve their businesses. The applications are open to startups in fashion, crafts, or design sectors. Interested persons can apply here.
