On Thursday, a 23-year old man, Joshua Oduola, who attempted to rape a 40-year old woman has been ordered by a family court in Iyaganku, Ibadan to be remanded in Abolongo Correctional facility. The police had charged Oduola with attempted rape.
Earlier, Prosecution Counsel, Inspector. Gbemisola Adedeji told the court that Oduola on August 4, around 5.30 pm, at first gate, Owode area, Apata, allegedly attempted to rape a 40-year-old woman.
Inspector Adedeji said Oduola attacked the woman on her way to church along a bushy path, of which the victim made a report of the matter at the Apata Police Station, Ibadan. Later, an arrest was initiated while investigation is still ongoing.
In a related development, Chief Magistrate S. H. Adebisi, who did not accept the plea of Oduola, based on lack of jurisdiction to hear the matter, ordered the police to return the case file to the Oyo State Director of Public Prosecution for legal advice. The case, for mention was eventually adjourned until September 6.
