Nigeria Police Force have detained security aides associated with former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello on charges of obstructing officials from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) during an attempted arrest. Among those in custody is a female police officer who previously served as Bello’s aide-de-camp.
Sources within the police department revealed that the arrest orders were issued by Inspector General of Police Olukayode Egbetokun, who directed the immediate withdrawal of security personnel assigned to Bello. These officers are suspected of facilitating Bello’s evasion from EFCC operatives who sought to apprehend him at his residence in Abuja.
The detained officers, including the former ADC, are presently being held at the State Criminal Investigation Department in Abuja pending further inquiries. Also, the Nigeria Immigration Service has placed Bello on its watchlist due to allegations of conspiracy, breach of trust, and money laundering.
The directive to withdraw police protection from Bello coincided with mounting scrutiny surrounding his purported involvement in financial misconduct, as highlighted by “Channels News.”
