Sanwo-Olu to continue as Lagos governor, Tinubu declares

The National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has formally endorsed Lagos State governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu and his deputy, Obafemi Hamzat for a second term in office.

The presidential hopeful made this known at a stakeholders meeting of the Lagos APC held at the Adeyemi Bero Hall, Alausa, Ikeja, on Friday.

Amid loud cheers and to the delight of party leaders and stakeholders present, the ‘Oracle of Lagos’ lifted up the hands of both Sanwo-Olu and Hamzat, declaring the duo for re-election.

This development brings to an end speculations surrounding the re-election bid of the Lagos State governor, as some reports suggest that Tinubu had dumped Sanwo-Olu for another loyalist, Mustapha Olorunfemi, who retired as a permanent secretary in the Lagos State Ministry of Science and Technology.

Meanwhile, Sanwo-Olu has since obtained his nomination forms after receiving the nod of the Governance Advisory Council — the highest decision making body of the Lagos APC — to seek a second term in office. Apparently, the governor has escaped the fate that befell his successor, Akinwunmi Ambode who was denied re-election after falling out with party leaders.
