According to Gawat, the first phase of the infrastructure works for the rail project (Marina to Mile 2) has been completed and is being inaugurated.

The blue line is one of seven Lagos metro rail lines, spanning from Marina to Okokomaiko as the commissioned portion runs from Mile 2 to Marina.

Also the first phase of the Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Blue Line stretches from Marina to Mile 2, covering five Stations and a 13- kilometer stretch, out of the total of 27 km that is the entire Blue Line and will run from Marina to Okokomaiko.

Recall in 1902, a tramway system was launched in the city of Lagos, connecting the Mainland to Lagos Island and the tramway quickly became an important part of social and commercial life in early 20th-century Lagos.

“One hundred and twenty years later another history was made with the completion of yet another historic rail line, the first phase of the Blue Line of the Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT).

However, during the first quarter of 2023, there will be a fitting official commissioning”, the governor said.
