In pursuit of Rotary International Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) programme, the Rotary Club of Gbagada South, donated students’ Wash-Hand basins to Oworonsoki group of schools in Lagos. The WASH Basins commissioned by the District Governor, Rotarian Kola Sodipe and his entourage was to complement the 14 toilets for students and 6 toilets for teachers which were presented to the school early in the year. President of Rotary Club of Gbagada South, Rotarian Biliamin Sanni, revealed that the gestures which came with a Hundred Thousand Naira one-year maintenance fund were part of activities lined up to host the district Governor who was on his official visit to the club.

The Rotary club also donated 40 chairs and desks to pupils of Lagos Mainland Primary School, Fadeyi, as part of the campaign to create a conducive learning environment in Lagos Schools. Included in the items donated to the school on July 12, 2018, was 6 office chairs and tables which were handed over to the head teacher, Akingbade Augustine.

While overseeing the handing over ceremony, the District Governor, Rotarian Kola Sodipe, commended the club for a job well done. During the ceremony, Sodipe recalled the contribution of the club in 2017 when it renovated one block of six classrooms at the same Mainland Primary School.

The President of Rotary Club of Gbagada South, Rotarian Biliaminu Sanni, advised the Headteacher and other teachers of the school to endeavour to take ownership of the items and facility donated to the school.
Speaking with BlackBox Nigeria, Rotarian Biliamin said the gesture of donating chairs and desks to the school became necessary when Rotary Club of Gbagada visited the school and saw the state of dilapidation where 188 pupils occupy 7 with limited numbers of chairs.

Other notable people who grace the event were Dr. Rotarian Ganiyu Sopeyin, Executive Chairman of State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) who was represented by Mr Ade Abatan, Director, School Support Services.

The events of the day climax with the donation of a chest freezer to Mrs Fatimah Olabode and award of a microloan to beneficiaries which included the recipient of the chest freezer. The club’s microloan project of One Million Naira operated in conjunction with a microfinance bank provides interest-free loans to market men and women and other small-scale businesses  within Lagos State.
