#RIO2016 : Etebo scores four, As jet lagged Nigeria edge Japan in Manaus

Destpite the odds starkly against the Nigeria’s U-23 team, who arrived at the venue of the Olympic Game on match day. The team proved a surprised package as they defeated the Japanese in a mouth watering 9 goals thriller.

 

Roma forward Sodiq Umar Opened the scoring for Nigeria just 7 minutes into the game, but it didn’t take long for the Japanese to pegg the West Africans back, as both teams scored a record breaking 4 goals just 12 minutes into the game.

 

Former Warri wolves forward Ogenekaro Etebo announced himself on a global stage with an incredible four goals to make him an instant favorite for the golden boot award. The Portuguese based player scored in the 10th, 42nd, 51th and 66th minutes to hand Nigeria a crucial 3 points, taking them to the summit of groub B, following Sweden and Columbia 2-2 draw earlier in the day.

 

Nigeria play their next game against European giants Sweden on Sunday in Manaus, Brazil. It is also worthy of note that Ogenekaro Etebo has became the first Nigeria player to score 3+ goals in the Olympic men’s football tournament.
