LASU Graduate To Return 200 Out Of School Children Back To Class

A National Youth Service Corps member,  Aderibigbe Adedayo is set to return not less than 200 Out of School Children to class when the summer holiday ends.

Adedayo who graduated from Lagos State University said she is motivated by the number of young girls out of School in Oyo State, a situation she said troubles her a lot because she understands the psychological effect.

“The project is inspired because I got to know that a lot of girls are out of school.  Some are out because of early pregnancy and needed to drop out, while others are out because their family background doesn’t encourage education or due to financial instability. So I decided to help them a a way of giving back to the society because I have also been through this before and I know its psychological effect,” she revealed in an exclusive chat with BlackBox Nigeria.

IMG-20160804-WA0000Adedayo who is currently serving in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital further told BBN that she recent met a family in the ancient city where only the father had a School Cert and none of the children are educated.

“It is now extending to the younger generation of the family”, she said.

Adedayo Aderibigbe noted that when she asked the father why his children and grand children are not in school, he said education is not compulsory and most of them are females so he doesn’t want to waste his money.

“I decided to explore more and realised that the issues of female education is not being properly addressed in the state,” she said with concern.

“This is a medium to empower the girl child that dropped out of school for some reasons and to let them see the importance of being educated in this day society so they could go back to school and make the best out of their lives.  And I am also using it as a form of community development programme within my state of primary deployment as a Corper,” she said.

According to the schedule made available to BlackBox Nigeria, the programme starts next week with registration of the pupils where Adedayo and her colleagues will talk to the students to motivate them ahead of resumption in the new academic session.

Adedayo Aderibigbe is a graduate of Lagos State University where she studied Political Science Education. She was initially posted to Cross River State for NYSC but she redeployed for personal reasons.
