Resident Doctors Begin Strike In Lagos Against Government Pleas

The Lagos State chapter of National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD)has refused to call off the strike scheduled to start today Monday 2nd of August despite the Pleas from the government.

Earlier, the President of the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD), Uyilawa Okhuaihesuyi, in an interview with one of the correspondents of a local newspaper on Sunday, revealed that the Federal Government had not reached out to the association. Therefore the strike was still on and would remain so until their requests were met.

NARD had earlier criticized the Lagos State government for its hurriedness in implementing the directives to scrap the enrollment of internships.

However, the commissioner for establishments training and pension made a statement on behalf of the government claiming that the government had at no point in time is used any order to cut the allowances of doctors.

The statement further explained that the claims were untrue and misleading. It further mentioned that the Lagos State governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu was after the good welfare of Lagos State and its government employees. Even more so it’s health workers.
The government however pleaded with the Lagos chapter of the association to show restraint and wait for the outcome of the stakeholders meeting to be held in the coming week.
