Reps Member Charges Councillors Of LG, LCDAs On Grassroot Development

A member, House of Representatives, Hon. AbdulRaheem Olajide Jimoh has urged councillors in the Local Government and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in Lagos state to make concrete bye-laws for the development of the local government, saying this must be paramount in their minds.

He disclosed this in a lecture delivered during 2nd Summit of Council Leaders of local government and LCDAs in the State held at Yaba LCDA Secretariat.

Jimoh, representing Lagos Mainland Constituency stated that as a grassroots lawmaker, making of bye-laws for the development of the local government must be paramount. Adding that they should not be found in the act of lawlessness.

As a democratically-elected local representative, you have powers to make bye-laws for the development of the local government. You have a unique privileges to make a real difference at the grassroots. Therefore, in your time come out with concrete laws to assist your various wards and the people“.

Jimoh also noted “Local governments chairmen need clear strategies and policies to enable them achieve their vision. Make the best use of resources and deliver services that meet the needs of local communities. As a councillor, work in synergy with your chairman through your contributions’ to the development of these policies and strategies, bringing the views and priorities of your local council to the debate at the chamber.”

He urged them to add voice on the call for extraction of local government from the Constitution.

Local government is the creation of the state government therefore, I urged you to add voice that Local Government should be expunged from the Constitution. With this it will make live easy for the people.”

Meanwhile in his remark, Leader of the House, Yaba LCDA, Hon Solomon Gbinigie said “our people are waiting and we cannot afford to fail on the mandate entrusted in us. We cannot afford to fall short of their expectations from us and disappoint our party APC that pushed us forward as the representatives of the people and the party.”

Also the council chairman Yaba LCDA, Hon. Kayode Omiyale urged them to respect one another not minding their positions as the leader of the council.

We should have respect for one another. Leave aside position and delivered the mandate for the people. In Yaba LCDA, in few days of working together, hardily you will recognize the arms of government because we worked in synergy with the same vision. All councillors in other local governments in the state should emulate this attitude for a better development of our communities”, he said.
