The Group consists of one hundred and thirteen members who have teamed up since last week calling for a proper investigation into the padding allegations leveled against the leadership of the lower chamber. The call was made by a member of the Group, Honorable Lawal Gumau (Toro, Bauchi State, APC).
He disclosed that padding has been in the National Assembly for long and he and other members have been against it. He disclosed this during a television interview on Sunrise Daily.
The lawmaker said he is not on either side of Speaker Dogara and former Appropriation Committee chairman, Jibrin, he said he is on the part of extinguishing padding from the nation’s budget.
He said the Transparency Group members do not want any committee in the National Assembly to be set up for investigation the allegations, he said they would want an outsider, like the Attorney-General of the Federation to carry out proper findings into the crimes leveled agaist the principal officers.
He said no member should say there is no padding in the budget.
