Morocco has shattered the 2022 World Cup dream of European giant, Spain after defeating them in the Round of 16 fixtures.

The African country without much expectation from football lovers, has done the unexpected by sending home the 2010 champions of the World Cup tournament. They had become the 4th African nation to advance to the World Cup Quarter finals.

After a goalless draw of 120 minutes of play, the match resorted to a penalty shootout to determine the country to scale through to the next round.

Abdelhamid Sabiri and Hakim Ziyech scored the first and second penalty kicks for the Moroccan team, with Pablo Sarabia and Carlos Soler losing theirs for the Spanish team.

Hope was ignited for the Spanish team when Badr Banoune lost the third shot for the African country. It didn’t last long after Sergio Busquets also missed the third for the Spanish team.

Spain-born Achraf Hakimi sealed it all for Morocco after he scored the fourth penalty, leaving the Spanish team devastated.

Morocco’s opponent for the Quarter final round will be determined after Portugal and Switzerland clash later tonight.
