Enthusiast winger Rahmon Basit kept his calm by converting the final spot kick as Ghetto Light FC booked a place in the Semi final of the 2020 edition of the prince Gas Cup at the expense of God’s Word FA in Mushin.
The Ghetto ballers started the game crisis riddened as not one but four first team regulars were missing in the starting lineup having sustained knocks in quarter final encounter two days ago.
Ogunleye Muiz, Adisa Mubarak, Yusuf Emmanuel and Da Costa Emmanuel were all absent from the game while captain Ajenipa Daniel has to play through pain for the entire duration of the match.
It didn’t take long before the game busted into life as Bankole Suliamon found Rahmon Basit in front of goal and the young winger slotted the ball clinically into the net.
First half ended with the Ghetto ballers holding a solitary lead over God’s Word FA.
After causing the defence all sorts of problems all game, God’s Word FA wide man Ayinla Wareez was brought down by centre back Bamidele Quadri in the 18 yard box.
The centre referee sounded the whistle for penalty. Match day goalkeeper stood up and converted the spot kick.
1 – 1 and it was game on for God’s Word FA. Chances upon chances came in for both teams and none was able to convert.
After 29 minutes of play in the second half, the centre referee sounded the final whistle and the game went into the lottery of Penalties.
It was an occasion to watch as both teams had proven there proficiency in spot kicks in the competition, with both teams winning there round of 16 match through the lottery of Penalties.
As was the case in the second round two days ago, Ghetto Light FC’s centre back Owooniran Quadri stepped forward to take the first spot kick and the outcome was the same. A successful execution.
All was going fine for both teams as expected till Ghetto Light FC captain Ajenipa Daniel ballooned his kick into the stands and the opponents had the opportunity to get into the lead. They didn’t as goal keeper Rahmon Kehinde stopped the corresponding spot kick.
Tempers needed to be calm at that point of spot kicks and centre forward Abolomope Hammed did just that and converted his kick to make it 3 – 1 in favor of the Ghetto ballers.
The player regarded as the match’s MVP in many quarters Ayinla Wareez stepped forward to take his team’s 4th kick and the wonderkid strike his effort against the woodwork.
The ground was set for Rahmon Basit to score the decisive penalty that takes his team to the Semi final of competition in there debut season. And he didn’t disappoint. 4 – 2 was how it ended as the spot kick landed in the back of the net.
The team will not head to Igando next Tuesday to take on there next opponent for a place in the finals.
The club has now played 25 matches since the relaxation of the ban contact sports racking up 13 wins, 6 draws and 6 losses in the process.
