In a bold move that defied a recent court order, Prince Afolabi Ghandi Olaoye has been officially installed as the new Soun of Ogbomoso Land, just days after Governor Seyi Makinde approves of his appointment.

This installation ceremony, which took place despite an interim court order restraining the governor and kingmakers from proceeding with the installation process, unfolded dramatically.

Olaoye, a Pastor with the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) based in the United States of America, arrived in the ancient city via a private chopper on Friday morning, landing at Ogbomoso Grammar School before proceeding to the palace.

The installation itself was carried out at the palace by the kingmakers, led by the Areago, High Chief Sobalaje Otolorin.

The new monarch, now known as His Imperial Majesty, Oba Afolabi Ghandi Olaoye, Orumogege III, is set to immediately commence the traditional rites associated with his position.

However, an Oyo State High Court in Ogbomoso, presided over by Justice K.A. Adedokun, issued an interim order just the day before the installation, restraining Governor Makinde and the kingmakers from proceeding further with Olaoye’s installation.

The court case, brought by Prince Muhammed Kabiru Olaoye, asserts that the Ogbomoso native law governing Soun’s installation must be strictly adhered to and is scheduled for further hearing on September 12.

In a surprising twist, the kingmakers have stated that they did not receive any court order restraining them from installing Olaoye as the new Soun of Ogbomoso.
