In a significant move toward modernization and efficiency, President Tinubu’s Administration, through the Minister of Interior, Hon Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has officially launched the much-anticipated International Passport Automation System. This initiative aims to streamline the passport application process, making it more accessible and convenient for Nigerian citizens.
Here are the five simple steps to process your Nigerian passport online:
Step 1: Visit the Official Website
Navigate to passport.immigration.gov.ng, the official website for the International Passport Automation System. Input your National Identification Number (NIN) to auto-fill your data from the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC).
Step 2: Complete Required Data
Fill in the remaining data fields as required on the online platform. Ensure that all information provided is accurate and up-to-date.
Step 3: Upload Passport Photograph and Supporting Documents
Upload a passport photograph that meets International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards. Additionally, submit other necessary supporting documents as specified during the application process.
Step 4: Biometric Capture at Immigration Office
After completing the online application, visit any Immigration Office for your biometric capture. This step ensures the security and accuracy of the information provided during the online application.
Step 5: Passport Ready for Collection
Within two weeks of completing the biometric capture, your international passport will be ready for collection. The improved efficiency of the International Passport Automation System aims to significantly reduce processing times, providing a more seamless experience for applicants.
This initiative aligns with the government’s commitment to leveraging technology for enhanced public services. Citizens are encouraged to take advantage of this simplified process for obtaining their international passports, marking a positive step towards a more digitally-driven and citizen-friendly government.
