President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Bishop Matthew Kukah, the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, as the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of the Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia, Kaduna State.
The appointment was announced in a statement released by the presidency on 17th March, 2025, which also named other principal officers for the university.
Prof. Qurix Williams Barnabas was appointed as Vice Chancellor, while Sanusi Gambo Adamu, Ibrahim Dalhat, and Prof. Daniel Abubakar were appointed as Registrar, Bursar, and University Librarian, respectively.
In addition to these appointments, President Tinubu also approved the appointment of four members to the university’s Governing Council, representing different regions of Nigeria. Mr. Thomas Etuh, Chief Fabian Nwaora, Prof. Femi Taiwo, and Zarah Bukar were appointed to represent the North Central, South East, South West, and North East regions, respectively.
According to the presidency, the appointees were chosen based on their distinguished careers, leadership experience, and dedication to advancing education in Nigeria.
President Tinubu has urged them to work together to position the university as a hub for academic excellence and research, aligning with his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia, is set to admit its first cohort of students in September 2025.
The university was formerly known as NoK University but was renamed following the federal government’s takeover of its assets.
Bishop Kukah’s appointment as Pro-Chancellor has been widely praised by education stakeholders, who describe him as a seasoned administrator and a strong advocate for education.
His leadership is expected to bring significant benefits to the university and the education sector as a whole.
