The presidency has finally reacted to the comments of the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu over his role in the emergence of President Muhammadu Buhari in 2015.
While addressing Ogun APC delegates last Thursday, Tinubu, a presidential hopeful, had narrated how he rescued Buhari from political retirement and helped him become Nigeria’s leader after the latter lost three consecutive elections.
The statement has since sparked outrage in the polity, as some berated the former Lagos State governor for disrespecting the president.
Tinubu’s campaign organisation had debunked the claims that their principal took a swipe at Buhari, insisting that his statement was twisted by traducers.
Reacting to the comments on Monday, presidential spokesperson, Garba Shehu said against the claims of the APC chieftain, millions of Nigerians helped Buhari achieve his historic win in 2015.
“There are those who advised the President to run again; those who decided to build a political party – the APC – that could finally be the political vehicle capable of delivering victory where all other opposition parties and alliances before it had failed,” the statement read in part.
“Those decisions may have been agreed upon by a few. But they were delivered by thousands and voted for by tens of millions. No one can or should claim to have made the possible.”

Shehu added what matters matters is the future such as the policy platforms, the ideas, the drive, and the determination to take over the President’s stewardship of the country and build upon his legacy to make Nigeria better than it has ever been.
