It’s victory at last for Nigerian singer cum politician, Bankole Wellington, popularly known as Banky W, after he won the rerun primary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to contest the House of Representatives, Eti-Osa Federal Constituency seat in the 2023 elections.

Wellington polled 24 votes to clinch the PDP ticket, beating his main challenger, Sam Aiboni, who got only five votes at the election held on Monday.

It would be recalled that the 41-year-old musician had won the first primary conducted last month. However, in a dramatic twist, the official result sheet that surfaced online days after had another candidate’s name as the winner. The poll was consequently cancelled and rescheduled.

After securing the PDP ticket, Banky W, who joined the opposition party earlier this year, would face Oyekanmi Elegushi of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the battle for Eti-Osa Federal Constituency seat.

In the 2019 elections, Wellington contested for the same office under the platform of the Modern Democratic Party (MDP). He, however, lost to Ibrahim Obanikoro of the APC.
