Controversial street-hop artiste, Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has been released from the Oke-Kura Custodial Centre in Ilorin following an out-of-court settlement with Fuji music legend, King Saheed Osupa.
Portable had been remanded after failing to meet bail conditions imposed by the court over a petition filed by Osupa, accusing the singer of defamation, intimidation, inciting disturbance, and cyberstalking.
The charges stemmed from a live Instagram broadcast on March 19, 2025, during which Portable made several derogatory statements about the Fuji icon.
“This man dey try bring down my shine! He be like person wey dey chop snail with shell—him no get sense. Osupa na tortoise,” Portable had said in the viral video, further accusing Osupa of sabotaging his music earnings by removing his songs from streaming platforms.
Following his arraignment by the Kwara State Police Command on April 8, Portable was granted bail with strict conditions, including two sureties with N1 million each—one of whom had to be an official of the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN), and the other a property owner in a Government Reserved Area (GRA) with a valid Certificate of Occupancy (C of O).
His failure to meet those conditions led to his temporary detention.
According to the state police spokesperson, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, King Saheed Osupa had filed the petition after deeming Portable’s remarks “damaging, inciting, and an attack on his reputation,” which he said had caused public tension.
However, in a show of clemency, Osupa agreed to withdraw the case after several respected figures in the entertainment industry intervened and pleaded for mercy on Portable’s behalf, BlackBox Nigeria reported.
The settlement was made under specific conditions, including a public retraction by Portable and a commitment to desist from defamatory behavior in the future.
A short video posted online shortly after his release showed Portable dancing energetically to one of his songs, sporting a low-skin haircut and looking visibly relieved.
The latest development signals the end of a turbulent episode in the singer’s career, as many hope he will now channel his energy towards more positive growth in the industry.
