The Katsina State Police Command has arrested one Ahmed Abdulmumini for allegedly sending a disregarding email to Governor Aminu Masari’s Special Adviser on Domestic Affairs, Alhaji Umar Ibrahim.

According to the police, the 39-year-old was apprehended after a complaint by the governor’s aide who said the suspect made derogatory remarks about him via email.

Umar stated that he saw the offensive message while going through various goodwill messages he received on his 55th birthday on October 25.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Gambo Isah, who confirmed the incident on Tuesday, said the police traced the offensive mail to Abdulmumini.

“Abdulmumini was consequently arrested; he confessed during interrogation to have sent the e-mail. He has committed an offence under Section 24 (1) A & B of the Cybercrime Act, 2015,” he said.

The suspect, who was paraded at the police command headquarters, Katsina, confessed during interrogation that he sent the e-mail.

He, however, pleaded for mercy, saying he meant no harm with the message.

“It is true I sent the email to him, but my intention was not to deride or defame him,” Abdulmumini said in Hausa.
