The Lagos State Environment Sanitation and Special Offences Taskforce, on Friday, have reportedly intercepted a truck laden with 48 motorcycles and 123 men coming from Jigawa State to Lagos state in search of greener pastures.
The truck was seized following a tip-off by members of the public who raised security concerns about the manner with which the truck occupants conducted themselves.
Chairman of Lagos State Taskforce, Mr Yinka Egbeyemi, said that the trailer was accosted in the wee hours on Friday, after a security alert from the public.
“My team swiftly responded to the information, which led to the seizure of the truck and its occupants at the Agege axis of Lagos State.
“We have interrogated most of the truck’s occupants; from the information we gathered, some of them claimed they were coming from Jigawa State, with 48 of them claiming to own seized motorcycles. The rest of them said they came to Lagos in search of greener pastures”, Mr Yinka said.
The unnamed driver of the truck, which also doubles as the ring leader of the highly coordinated illegal mass movement of motorcyclist from the North, confessed that Transport Union from the North usually collects a fee of N1,800 for transportation per rider, adding that the riders could be dropped anywhere in Lagos.
