Peter Obi makes fresh appeal to supporters

The presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi has appealed to his supporters to be tolerant of opposing views.

Obi, who enjoys the backing of young Nigerians particularly on social media, made the appeal in a statement on his verified Twitter page on Sunday.

While thanking his supporters for believing in him, the former Anambra State governor urged them to embrace dissent views and divergent opinions and even learn from them.

He noted that while the frustration and anger of his followers are understandable, they must however strive to channel that energy positively to earn the support of others.

“I sincerely thank my supporters for believing in me and my commitment to building a united, secure and well-functioning Nigeria. However, I appeal once more that we should be tolerant of other people’s views, dissent and divergent opinions & possibly learn from them,” he wrote.

“While the frustration and anger in the country is understandable, we must strive to channel that energy positively in ways that will earn the support and collaboration of others.

“Even as our message continues to gain broad acceptance, there are some we still need to work to convince. In expressing ourselves, we should do so with grace so as not to precipitately shut doors to future collaborations on sustainable nation-building.”

Obi’s comments come barely 24 hours after the presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Rabiu Kwankwaso said he is offering “a golden opportunity” to the ex-governor to be his running mate, amid talks of possible collaboration between the two politicians.
