Veteran Nigerian Fuji musician, Wasiu Alabi Pasuma, has released his second hip-hop studio album, Fuji Afro, weeks after fellow Fuji star Adewale Ayuba released his contemporary music project, Arise.
Pasuma announced the 12-track album for release on Friday, November 6, 2026, describing it as a continuation of his musical journey, 10 years after his debut hip-hop album, My World.
“Ten years after my debut hip-hop album, the journey continues with my second studio album. A decade of growth, evolution and musical creativity, bringing together different talents and sounds. Every sound tells a story, every track carries a feeling. FUJI AFRO — NOVEMBER 6,” he wrote.
The release comes less than two months after Ayuba unveiled Arise on September 19, 2026. The five-track project features a contemporary blend of hip-hop and Afrobeats, reflecting the singer’s efforts to take Fuji beyond its traditional audience.
Although both musicians approach the crossover differently, their latest projects combine elements of Fuji with contemporary sounds and production.
Pasuma’s Fuji Afro features Olamide, Qdot and Terry Apala. Its tracklist includes Faaja, Premium, Ijo Alhaji, Fuji Vibez, Halley, Payday, Jaye, Up Up Way, Gbadun, Cornerstone, Calm Down and Apala Fuji.
The singer released Premium on October 29 as an introductory single ahead of the album.
Born Wasiu Alabi Ajibola Odetola, Pasuma began his music career in 1984 and released his debut Fuji album, Recognition, in 1993. He gained wider recognition with Orobokibo in 1995, establishing himself among Nigeria’s leading Fuji musicians.
His first major hip-hop project, My World, was released in 2015. The 16-track album featured Olamide, Tiwa Savage, Phyno, Patoranking, Oritse Femi, Qdot and Frankie Free.
Pasuma has also collaborated with musicians across different genres, including 2Baba, 9ice and Eedris Abdulkareem. He ventured into acting and appeared in the film Gangs of Lagos.
Ayuba, popularly known as Bonsue Fuji, is also among the established figures in the Fuji music industry. His popular songs include Bubble, Mr Johnson and Ijo Fuji.
The releases by both musicians come amid efforts by established Fuji artistes to connect the genre with younger listeners through contemporary sounds and collaborations.
