A truck carrying crates of beer reportedly crashed at Ojuelegba in Lagos, leaving several bottles scattered on the road as passersby rushed to pick them up.
Videos and pictures circulating on social media showed people gathering around the scene and carrying away bottles that had fallen from the truck following the accident.
Some of those at the scene were also seen opening the bottles and drinking from them, while others continued to pick up the drinks.
The incident sparked reactions online, with social media users expressing concern over the decision of some passersby to collect the fallen bottles instead of assisting at the accident scene or helping to secure the area.
Some users described the incident as an example of the attraction of free items, while others criticised those who reportedly stopped to drink at the scene.
The circumstances surrounding the crash, including whether anyone was injured, were not immediately clear from the videos and posts circulating online.
The incident has since generated widespread discussion on social media, with users debating public conduct at accident scenes and the response of passersby to goods scattered following road crashes.
