A fire outbreak occurred at the departure hall of the Kenyan Airways at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, Nigeria, on Wednesday morning, causing panic and disruption among the passengers and staff.
According to eyewitnesses, the fire was caused by a faulty cable on the Tarmac, which had also damaged a portion of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) administrative office the previous night.
It was gathered that the smoke from the fire filled the hall and made it difficult to breathe.
Some passengers tried to escape through the emergency exits, while others waited for instructions from the authorities.
The Lagos State Fire service arrived at the scene and joined forces with the FAAN to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to other parts of the airport.
The fire was eventually put out after about an hour of intense efforts.
Fortunately, no casualties were reported, but some passengers and staff suffered minor injuries and inhalation problems.
The incident disrupted the flight operations at the airport, as some flights were delayed or cancelled.
“All passengers and staff were asked to evacuate the building while the Lagos State Fire service was on hand to complement that of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), “a source said.
