The family of Pa Akintola Williams has announced his death on Monday, September 11, 2023.

Pa Williams was a pioneer and a leader in the accounting profession in Nigeria.

He was the first indigenous chartered accountant in the country, having qualified in 1947 after studying at the University of London.

He founded his own accounting firm, Akintola Williams & Co., now Deloitte & Touche, in 1952. The firm became one of the leading accounting firms in Nigeria and Africa.

He was also instrumental in establishing and promoting the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), where he served as a founding member and a president.

He was a member of the National Board of Accountants and Auditors as well.

He was honoured with many awards and recognitions for his contributions to the development of the financial sector in Nigeria.

He was awarded the Order of the Federal Republic (OFR) and the Nigerian National Order of Merit (NNOM).

He was also a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales.

Pa Williams was a respected and admired figure who will be remembered for his legacy and achievements.

He died peacefully in his sleep and is survived by his family, friends, colleagues and the nation.
