Osun governor-elect, Adeleke receives INEC certificate of return

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has presented a certificate of return to the governor-elect of Osun State, Senator Ademola Adeleke.

Adeleke, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), had earlier been declared winner of the recent governorship election in the state.

He polled 403,371 votes to defeat his old rival, the incumbent governor, Gboyega Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who secured 375,027 votes.

On Wednesday, the INEC National Commissioner, Prof. Kunle Ajayi made the formal presentation of the certificates to Adeleke and the deputy governor-elect, Prince Kola Adewusi.

This development comes about 24 hours after Adeleke’s nephew, award-winning musician, Davido queried why the electoral umpire had not issued the certificate of return to his uncle 48 hours after the election.

In response, the INEC National Commissioner and Chairman Information and Voter Education Committee, Festus Okoye, in a statement, said the commission had up to 14 days to issue the winner with the certificate of return.
