Peter Nwachukwu, the husband of the late popular gospel singer, Osinachi, has denied involvement in the controversial death of his wife.

Nwachukwu, whose wife allegedly died as a result of prolonged assault by him, has been in detention over a month. The Federal Government, through the office of the Attorney-General, had slammed a 23-count charge bordering on domestic violence and homicide against him.

Speaking during his arraignment before the High Court in Abuja, on Friday, he claimed that he has been suffering unjustly, insisting his wife died due to cancer against claims that he assaulted her.

“Let me tell the whole world, I have suffered a lot. I have been abandoned. What killed my wife was cancer of the lungs, I didn’t hit my wife.

“Cancer of the lungs killed my wife, Osinachi Nwachukwu, so I’m suffering for what I do not know,” he said while being escorted to the court room.

After the defendant pleaded not guilty, the presiding judge, N.K. Nwosu-Iheme remanded him at the Kuje Correctional Facility, pending the hearing and determination of the homicide-related suit instituted against him.
