In a significant turn of events within the Ikorodu Kingdom, Oba Kabir Adéwálé Shotobi, the esteemed monarch of Ikorodu, has officially dethroned Olawale Akanni Andus from his position as the Asiwaju Eleluku and Asiwaju Onimagbo of Ikorodu Kingdom due to reasons only known by the monarch.

The move came after a series of consultations and deliberations within the royal council, marking a shift in the leadership of the revered title.

The revered title, Asiwaju Eleluku, is a position responsible for the Spiritual earth of Eluku deities— that are believed to judge those who break the law of customs of Ikorodu kingdom.

The Eluku festival, also known as the Eyibi festival is a traditional festival celebrated in Ikorodu area of Lagos State and which must be spearheaded by the Asiwaju Eleluku.

Following the dethronement of Andus, Oba Shotobi installed Semiu Shokunbi as the new Asiwaju Eleluku. The installation ceremony, which took place at the palace in Ikorodu, was reportedly attended by notable dignitaries, traditional chiefs, and members of the Ikorodu community.

However, the public has not been informed about the reason behind the dethronement of the previous title holder, Olawale Andus.

But it could be discerned according to the information gathered by BlackBox Nigeria that Andus, who is a socialite got the position around 2015 due to his wealthy status in the community. He also worked for his in-law as real estate agent for all the lands and houses owned by the Oníkòyí of Ikoyi Land.

According to reports, Andus who claimed to be a prince from the Ikorodu kingdom married a princess from Ikoyi land— Alhaja Sherifat, the daughter of Oba Patrick Ibikunle Fafunwa, the Oníkòyí of Ikoyi Land. He was once a kingship candidate for the stool of Ikorodu kingdom.

The Oníkòyí who is in charge of premium real estate which includes Banana Island, Lekki Penninsula and other high value areas in that locality got the family business to their in-law due to his profession as real estate mogul.

But, this enjoyment was cut short not too long after the family demanded for account of all the proceeds he make during the time of his supervision but he couldn’t, therefore stripping him the chances of lavish spending.

The dethronement of Akanni Andus has sparked discussions across the region, with many speculating about the reasons behind the decision.

However, sources close to the royal palace suggest that the action was taken in the best interest of the kingdom, with a focus on strengthening the leadership structure and ensuring the continued prosperity of Ikorodu.

Semiu Shokunbi, the newly installed Asiwaju Eleluku, is expected to work closely with Oba Shotobi and other leaders in the kingdom to address key issues facing the community, including development, unity, and the preservation of Ikorodu’s cultural values.
