The Nigerian film industry has been thrown into mourning following the death of Nollywood actress Tope Osoba after a prolonged illness.
News of her passing sparked an outpouring of tributes from fans and colleagues, many of whom remembered her courage during her health battle.
Osoba had publicly revealed in 2025 that she was diagnosed with breast cancer after discovering a lump during a self-examination.
She later disclosed that an initial medical assessment failed to detect the seriousness of her condition before further tests confirmed the diagnosis.
Speaking in an interview with BBC News Yoruba at the time, the actress described the diagnosis as one of the most difficult moments of her life.
Fortunately, doctors said the cancer had not spread significantly, meaning she only required radiation therapy and not chemotherapy or a mastectomy.
During her treatment, actress Foluke Daramola led efforts to raise funds for Osoba’s medical care after she appealed for financial assistance.
Following the treatment, Osoba announced she was cancer-free and thanked supporters for standing by her.
She, however, remained on a five-year medication plan as advised by her doctors.
Her death has left the Nollywood community and her fans grieving the loss of an actress remembered for her resilience and determination.
