By I Won’t Contest Elections Again! Nigerians React To Buhari’s New Year Message, Highlights Number Of Times He Has Made Same Statement
Nigerians have reacted to the New Year broadcast of President Muhammadu Buhari where he declared that he won’t be contesting for the presidential election.
It will be recalled that rumours making rounds online have it that President Buhari will be seeking 3rd term in office come 2023 when his 2nd term will come to an end. This claim had been refuted by presidential aide, Garba Shehu who at different times stated his principal wasn’t contesting in the next general election.
President Buhari while addressing the nation on Wednesday, January 1st 2020 further stated that he won’t be contesting again as he will be leaving the Aso Villa at the end of his 2nd tenure in 2023.
Reacting to his statement, Nigerians took to the social media to state several times Buhari has announced he won’t be contesting again and still contested.
It was gathered that in February 6th, 2011, Buhari was quoted to have declared he won’t contest again, “I Will Never Contest Elections Again”- Buhari (as reported in Sunday Sun). Premium Times also reported in April 9th 2018 that Buhari disclosed he will only contest one term, before the 2019 General Election, which he later contested.
