Nigerians react as Multichoice group increases VAT by 7.5%, effective June 1st

Nigerians have taken to Twitter to register their disapproval and dissatisfaction of the planned 7.5 per cent increase of Value Added Tax (VAT) in the services of Multichoice Group, operators of DStv and GOtv.

The satellite TV provider, Thursday, sent  messages to its subscribers informing them of the planned increase.

“Dear customer, please be informed that effective 1 June 2020, we will implement 7.5% VAT on all DStv services. Visit http://dstvafrica.com to see your new pricing,” the message to DStv subscribers read.

The company had said it could not shoulder the 2.5% percent increase in VAT (from 5 per cent to 7.5 per cent) which was made legal following the signing of the 2019 finance bill by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Following the increment, Nigerians have taken to the ever busy streets of Twitter to register their dissatisfaction, below are some of the tweets.
