Nigerian international and Nottingham Forest’s record signing, Taiwo Awoniyi ended the team’s 23-year goalless streak in the Premier League, on his full debut for the club on Sunday.

The first-half goal was scored by Taiwo Awoniyi, and despite hitting the crossbar twice more and missing a penalty kick by Declan Rice, West Ham was unable to recover and began the season with two losses.

The former Union Berlin forward was such a handful that even Zouma struggled to cope with his physicality and, like his team, would have been glad of the half-time whistle. After the break, West Ham came out with intent in search of the equaliser.

It was almost too much for the Forest fans to take as they willed their team to hold on, while Moyes stalked his technical area in barely concealed fury. He threw on substitutes and finally thought his team had their goal when Zouma’s header arrowed towards the corner.

After the game ended at the iconic “City Ground,” Steve Cooper’s team celebrates its return to Premier League play with a decisive 1-0 victory.

It is important to note that Nottingham Forest’s last Premier League goal came on May 16, 1999.
