Nigerian sports community thrown into mourning as Complete Sports founder dies at 71

The death of the founder and executive chairman of Complete Communication Limited, publishers of Complete Sports Newspaper, Dr Sunny Emmanuel Ojeagbase has sent shock waves across the Nigerian sports community and beyond.

The veteran sports journalist died last Saturday in Atlanta, United States, after a brief illness, according to a statement by his son, Julius. He was aged 71.

Ojeagbase was the pioneer sports editor at the inception of The Guardian newspapers in 1983.

Prior to that, the ex-military officer had a stint with Daily Times in the mid 1970s and later worked with Sunday Concord newspapers as Sports Editor in 1980.

In 1995, he introduced Complete Sports, the foremost Nigerian sports newspaper.

Dr Ojeagbase bagged a Diploma in Journalism from the University of Lagos but was a recipient of an honorary degree from another institution for his entrepreneurship achievements.

His burial arrangements are yet to announced by the family, as tributes pour in for the veteran sports journalist and media executive.
