Renowned Nigerian legal practitioner and immediate past president of the Nigerian Bar Association, Olumide Akpata, has taken a significant step towards contributing to the transformation of Nigeria’s political landscape by joining the Labour Party.

Akpata, who currently serves as the Head of the Corporate and Commercial Practice Group at Templars law firm in Nigeria, made history in July 2020 when he became the first non-Senior Advocate of Nigeria to assume the presidency of the Nigerian Bar Association.

The news of Akpata’s party membership surfaced recently, after he attended his inaugural Ward Meeting at Oredo Ward 6 in Benin-City last Sunday.

During the meeting, he was warmly welcomed and formally introduced to fellow party members, receiving his official Party membership card.

Responding to the circulating reports about his political affiliation, Akpata confirmed the news and acknowledged the numerous messages and calls he received seeking verification.

He admitted that the decision to venture into politics was not taken lightly but stemmed from his determination to stop merely lamenting Nigeria’s challenges and, instead, actively contribute to solutions.

In a statement, Akpata said, “I simply got tired of complaining about Nigeria every day and bemoaning her fate, and I decided to take the plunge and try to be part of the solution rather than agonizing continually over the problem.”

The step into politics marks a crucial milestone in Akpata’s career, and he expressed hope and prayers for a successful journey towards effecting positive change in the nation.

As an esteemed legal expert, his dedication to the legal profession and leadership experience within the Nigerian Bar Association will undoubtedly be valuable assets in his new political endeavor.

With Akpata’s background and commitment, many are optimistic that his involvement in the Labour Party will bring fresh perspectives and constructive contributions to the party’s mission in addressing Nigeria’s challenges and driving the country forward.

As he embarks on this important journey, Olumide Akpata’s decision to actively engage in politics signifies the willingness of accomplished professionals to step up and participate in shaping the nation’s future.

The Nigerian public now keenly awaits how his impactful presence in the Labour Party will unfold and contribute to the political landscape of Nigeria.
