Nigeria Customs Dismisses Assistant Comptroller Who Rejected $412k Bribe From Smugglers

 

Nigeria Customs Service has dismissed an Assistant Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Abubakar for negligence.

ACG Abubakar who was widely celebrated in 2018 for rejecting bribe of $412,000 from smugglers transporting Tramadol drugs was dismissed prematurely for acts bothering on negligence.

Reports however have it that ACG Abubakar dismissal was as a result of a raid of a warehouse belonging to a foreign rice smuggler in Daura, Kastina State. It was gathered that Abubakar led some Customs officer to the warehouse where smuggled foreign rice where allegedly stored.

He was then dismissed based on orders from above on the grounds of negligence on official duty.

It will be recalled that ACG Abubakar’s rejection of bribe was celebrated by President Muhammadu Buhari GCFR who decorated Abubakar with Integrity Award for exhibiting integrity in the performance of his official duty.
