The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has relieved Gernot Rohr of his appointment as the Technical Adviser of the Super Eagles.
In a statement on Sunday night, the NFF confirmed that Rohr’s contract has been officially terminated.
This development brings to an end almost a month of speculations, with the NFF denying speculations that the German coach had been sacked back in November.
“The relationship between the Nigeria Football Federation and Mr Rohr has come to an end.
“We thank him for his services to the Super Eagles and Nigeria,” the NFF said in the statement.
The country’s football governing body also confirmed the appointment of former international and current Technical Director, Augustine Eguavoen as the interim Technical Adviser with immediate effect.
The statement added, “Following a virtual meeting of the NFF Executive Committee on Sunday, it was decided that Eguavoen will work with Salisu Yusuf (Chief Coach); Paul Aigbogun (Assistant Coach); Joseph Yobo (Assistant Coach); Dr Terry Eguaoje (Assistant Coach), and Aloysius Agu (Goalkeeper Trainer).
“Former Nigeria captains Augustine ‘Jay Jay’ Okocha, Nwankwo Kanu, and Garba Lawal have been appointed to provide technical and ambassadorial support for the crew.”
Rohr, 64, became Super Eagles coach in August 2016, with his contract with Nigeria ending in December 2022.
Nigeria’s longest-serving manager, the German led the Super Eagles to the 2018 World Cup and guided the team to a third place finish at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.
