Grammy nominee and Nigerian music legend, Femi Kuti has said that music isn’t about awards but about spreading love and bringing comfort to people. He said his father, late Afrobeat maestro Fela Kuti was never nominated for the Grammys, likewise reggae music legend, Bob Marley.
The renowned musician stated this, on Thursday, in a tweet where he responded to a fan who disclosed that he has the highest number of Grammy nominations in Nigeria.
“Music really isn’t about awards though. Fela never won or was never nominated. I don’t think Bob Marley was too. Music is about spreading ❤️, giving people the will to go through the hard times in live,etc and inspiration. Music must bring comfort too,” the tweet read.
Recall BlackBox Nigeria reported that the accomplished singer bagged a nomination for his feature on ‘Everyday Life’ album by Grammy Award winning British band, Coldplay with the track ‘Arabesque’. The album has been nominated for Album Of The Year at the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards.
Before now, Femi has four nominations for a Grammy Award in the Best World Music Album category for his works; Fight to Win in 2002, Day by Day in 2009, Africa for Africa in 2012 and “No Place for My Dream” in 2014.
