The Lagos State Independent Electrical Commission (LASIEC), on Thursday, issued a certificate of return to a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mustapha Olanrewaju, affirming him as the rightful winner of the election in Oriade Ward A, Kirikiri, Oriade Local Council Development Area (LCDA) in the state.
This comes after the Appeal Tribunal, hearing cases on the Lagos council poll held three months ago, ruled that Olanrewaju won the councillorship election, and asked the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Onyeahasi Omolabake, to stop parading herself as councillor for the ward.
Delivering the judgement, the chairman of the five-man appeal tribunal, Justice Morenike Obadina also ruled that the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) should issue a Certificate of Return to Olanrewaju.
LASIEC Chairman, Justice Ayotunde Phillips (retd), in compliance with the tribunal’s directives, presented the certificate to the PDP candidate at the agency’s headquarters in Yaba area of the state, on Thursday.
Phillips, who represented by a LASIEC Commissioner, Olusegun Ayedun, commended Olanrewaju and his party for using the instrumentality of the law to reclaim their mandate rather than choosing violence.
She urged the newly affirmed councillor to justify the re-consideration reposed on him by the electoral body by working tirelessly for the welfare of the people.
