The supposed hidden profile of Olukoya Ogungbeje has since flipped open since he made headlines on Thursday after dragging the Inspector General of Police and three others to Court on charges bothering on fundamental human rights infringement.
Ogungbeje, who is the Chairman of Lawflex Chambers had on behalf of kidnap kingpin, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, popularly known as Evans filed the charges against the Nation’s security arm as the culprit remains in custody.
Findings by BlackBox Nigeria revealed that Ogungbeje who is also the Convener of Voice Vanguard is usually in the practice of filing charges on behalf of any party without prior consent.
A source who confided in BBN disclosed that he was very sure that neither Evans nor his family members contracted Ogungbeje to represent him in the Court.
His claims was apparent when confessional video of Evans were watched and no sign of being under duress were noticed by the press who questioned him.
Ogungbeje had on Wednesday filed charges bothering on fundamental human rights as he said the Lagos State Police Command have failed to give his client, a fair hearing and have been exposing him to all sort of questioning from the press since he was arrested in Lagos.
BBN gathered that Ogungbeje has been in the practice of representing ‘clients’ who have never contacted him.
Some cases he was involved included that of the Founder of Synagogue Church of All Nations, Pastor Temitope B Joshua and Lagos State Government after an extension of the church collapsed.
After filing a case in Court in favour of the pastor, a source disclosed that the clergyman simply asked him to close it and paid him N1m, which he did immediately.
He also sued the Nigerian Navy authority on alleged breach of right of Danbaba Suntai without his prior knowledge. It was gathered that the case which had been settled had the family denying contacting him.
BBN gathered that in same vein, Ogungbeje had sometimes in May, 2017 questioned a Lagos Court for giving judgement on final forfeiture of raw cash found in an apartment in an Ikoyi Towers. It was learnt that he stood for both Rivers State Government and National Intelligence Agency, both which earlier lay claims to the discovery.
Another source further disclosed to BBN that Ogungbeje has also stopped a disciplinary process against him by the Nigerian Bar Association. He said the case is currently before Justice Oyekan Abdullahi of the Lagos High Court.
While some individuals who know him have described him as a champarty lawyer, some have referred to him as the fair hearing lawyer as he seems to appear from the blues to ‘defend’ persons who are yet to reach out for help.
