Manchester United has parted ways with Erik ten Hag, ending his tenure as the club’s men’s first-team manager. The club issued a statement confirming the decision, expressing gratitude for Ten Hag’s contributions during his time at Old Trafford.
Appointed in April 2022, the Dutch manager brought the club two domestic trophies; the Carabao Cup in 2023 and the FA Cup in 2024, marking a revival in the club’s silverware pursuits.
“Erik was appointed in April 2022 and led the club to two domestic trophies, winning the Carabao Cup in 2023 and the FA Cup in 2024.
“We are grateful to Erik for everything he has done during his time with us and wish him well for the future,” the club said in its statement.
While Ten Hag’s departure signals a shift in the club’s direction, Manchester United has announced former player and Dutch compatriot Ruud van Nistelrooy as interim head coach.
Van Nistelrooy, former striker for the club, will lead the team, supported by the existing coaching staff, as the club searches for a permanent head coach.
