Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum has signed a contract to join Paris Saint-Germain after the club hijacked his proposed move to Barcelona.
Subject to a medical, the 30-year-old’s free transfer to the French club will officially take effect once his Liverpool deal expires at the end of this month.
Wijnaldum opted not to sign an extension to his contract with Liverpool at the end of the season.
Barcelona had thought Wijnaldum was joining them and had a medical planned but the Netherlands international changed his mind after PSG offered twice the wage following a call from manager Mauricio Pochettino.
PSG, who finished second in Ligue 1 last season, are understood to have stepped in with a better offer.
The midfielder will be with the club for the next three seasons.
Wijnaldum left Liverpool after five years at Anfield. The Dutchman lifted the Premier League and Champions League during his time in Merseyside, playing 237 games for Jurgen Klopp’s side.
