By Lionel Messi’s hat-rick fires Argentina to #Russia2018 World Cup
Five time World Footballer of the year, Lionel Messi proved his mettle earlier on as he helped his South American nation Argentina on a cruise to next year’s world cup. Lionel Messi’s hat-trick was just enough for the Argentines as they qualified for a spot in Russia.
The two-time World cup champions were on the verge of crashing out after hosts, Ecuador sent down shivers down their spines with a fast goal which came in 40 seconds into the match. Romario Ibarra scored one of the fastest goal in the qualifying session when he found the net less than one minute to the commencement of the match.
Messi who is the Skipper of the Argentine side however stepped up to the occasion scoring three times. The Barcelona star equalized for Argentina in the 12th minute and doubled the tally six minutes later. He however sealed the win with fantastic solo goal 15 minutes into the second half.
Out of the 32 teams that will be appearing at the World Cup in Russia, 23 have already qualified. This include Nigeria, hosts Russia among others.
