Like Donald Trump, Edo Governorship Candidate Survives Assassination Attempt

 

 

Edo State Deputy Governor and governorship candidate Philip Shuaibu narrowly escaped an assassination attempt in Benin City when gunmen attacked his convoy near the Benin Airport exit gate roundabout

The incident, according to SaharaReporters involved members of the Edo State Security Network (ESSN) and state-sponsored thugs and resulted in the tragic death of a police officer from Senator Monday Okpebholo’s convoy.

In a press statement dated July 18, 2024, Shaibu’s media team confirmed the incident, stating: “The attempt on the life of the deputy governor and other VIPs occurred at the Airport exit gate roundabout near Faith Mediplex. State-sponsored thugs and members of the ESSN orchestrated the attack, which led to sporadic shootings, causing chaos among supporters who had gathered to welcome the reinstated deputy governor back to Benin.”

“Tragically, one police officer attached to APC governorship candidate Senator Monday Okpebholo’s convoy lost his life, and several officers and supporters were wounded in the unprovoked brutal attack,” the statement added. Despite several attempts, SaharaReporters was unable to reach the Edo State Police Command for comment on the incident.

In a related event, Former U.S. President Donald Trump recently survived an assassination attempt at a Pennsylvania rally, days ahead of his anticipated acceptance of the Republican nomination for a third presidential run. Trump was reportedly shot in the ear and quickly shielded by Secret Service agents, who escorted him to safety.
