LAWMA announces second edition of waste essay contest for Lagos residents

As part of its duties to proffer workable solutions to environmental problems, the educational arm of the Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), LAWMA Academy has announced its readiness to hold its 2nd waste essay competition for Lagos residents.

This was contained in a statement released and signed by the LAWMA Director of Public Affairs, Mrs Folashade Kadiri.

According to the statement, the purpose of the essay competition, themed, “Impacts of Waste Containerization on Effective Waste Management,” iss to create awareness for its recently launched “Adopt-a-Bin programme”and also improve the participants’ knowledge of waste management and environmental sustainability.

It read in part, “Our portal is open for the second edition of the waste competition with the topic, ‘Impact of waste containerization of effective waste management’.

“This is in line with LAWMA’s current initiative to promote proper waste containerisation through the Adopt-a-Bin programme launched on 23rd February, 2022. We believe that this will help to get people’s opinion on waste containerization and recommendations to help in remodeling the programme.”

Declaring the competition open to individuals from the age of 18 to 30, LAWMA Academy revealed that there were cash prizes of ₦50,000 for the winner, ₦30,000 for the first runner-up and ₦20,000 for the second runner- up. However, participation is restricted to only Lagos residents.

Interested participants are expected visit the LAWMA’s portal for full guidelines, indicating that the maximum essay length is 1500 words, file format is Word document, while the Times New Roman font and font size 12 should be used.

The bio data accompanying the essay must contain date of birth, gender, address and occupation, while participants are mandated to follow LAWMA’s social media handles.

The maiden edition of the competition took place in August 2020 with over 250 entries received.
