LASU student wins bronze for Nigeria at Commonwealth Games

Yusuf Islamiyat Bukola, a student of the Lagos State University, has won a bronze medal in weightlifting at the ongoing 2022 Commonwealth Games.

She won the women’s 64kg category by lifting 93kg in the Snatch and Clean and Jerk: 113kg, 116kg, 119kg with a total result of 212kg.

The 19-year-old is a Physical and Health Education Sandwich Degree student of LASU from its Ilesha Campus.

Reacting to the development, the varsity’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello congratulated Yusuf on the feat which she described as “praiseworthy”

The VC noted that the teenage weightlifter “represents a breath of fresh air, an inspiration for other young ladies, especially those whose passion lie in sports”.

She further said that Yusuf’s feat hasn’t only brought glory to Nigeria, but will also draw attention to the immense sporting potentials in LASU, in advancement of her administration’s effort to place the institution on the global map through sports.
