LASU Graduate Wins #1M Cash Prize at Maiden NYSC Chemistry Competition

Peter Osagie Ifagbuyi, a recent graduate of Lagos State University (LASU), has emerged victorious in a Chemistry oral/verbal quiz competition at the NYSC orientation camp in Iyana Ipaja, Lagos. The competition, organized by the NYSC Lagos chapter, took place during the ongoing camp orientation on November 10, 2023.

Ifagbuyi, a 2022 graduate of the Chemistry Department from the LASU Faculty of Science, answered all the questions in the first and second rounds of the quiz, defeating nine other contestants. Prior to the final rounds, Ifagbuyi, with the number LA/23c/1422, went through an online screening to reach the last round, where he and the other nine contestants represented their respective platoons.

For his remarkable achievement and winning the maiden Chemistry contest, sponsored by VSP Botanics, Ifagbuyi was awarded a cash prize of #1,000,000.

Jolaolu Balogun, a graduate of Pharmacy from the University of Lagos (UNILAG) came in second place and received #500,000. Bethrand Chukwu, a graduate of Medicine from the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN), secured the third position and was awarded a cash prize of #250,000.

Prof. Razak Olowu, Head of the Department of Chemistry at LASU’s Faculty of Science, praised the winner’s performance, emphasizing that it reflects the positive influence the university had on him during his studies. He highlighted LASU’s capacity to shape students both academically and in other aspects of life. Prof. Olowu congratulated Ifagbuyi and encouraged him to remain focused, wishing him continued success in the future.
