Olatunji Disu, a graduate of Lagos State University (LASU), has been appointed as the new Commissioner of Police for Rivers State by the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun.
CP Olatunji Disu, born on April 13, 1966, in Lagos State, holds educational qualifications in English (Education) from LASU.
CP Olatunji Disu, a seasoned officer with a distinguished career, replaced CP Nwonyi Emeka, who was accused by the Rivers State Governor, Siminalaye Fubara, of attempting to kill him during a visit to the State House of Assembly, which was damaged by an explosion.
The IGP said the appointment of Disu was to ensure efficiency in the policing system across the state, which has been facing security challenges such as cultism, kidnapping, and political violence.
Disu’s rapid ascent in the police ranks is attributed to his dedication and achievements.
He was the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Department of Operations, Force Headquarters, Abuja, he played a key role in coordinating the IGP’s security team.
His track record includes leading the Nigeria Police Contingent to the African Union Peacekeeping Mission in Darfur, Sudan, and subsequent appointments to head critical units in different states.
Notably, he was tasked with leading the Rapid Response Squad in Lagos State, contributing significantly to the state’s security.
With over three decades of service, CP Disu’s career highlights include being Aide-De-Camp to former Governor Bola Ahmed Tinubu, leadership roles in tackling criminal activities and commanding the Police Intelligence Response Team (IRT) after replacing DCP Abba Kyari in August 2021.
Disu assumed office on November 9, 2023, and pledged to work with the state government, civil society, and the media to ensure peace and security in the state.
He also appealed to the public to cooperate with the police and report any suspicious activities or persons to the nearest police station.
