An alumna of the Lagos State University (LASU), Rofiat Atanda, has emerged as the spokesperson of the European Union Youth Sounding Boarding (EU-YSB).

She was selected among 25 young leaders chosen across Nigeria to speak on behalf of YSB, particularly on external communication such as media dialogues and communications. As spokesperson, Ms. Atanda is expected to communicate effectively to external and internal stakeholders on the work of the YSB.

YSB is an initiative of EU which aims to enable the involvement of young people in EU’s partnership with Nigeria by creating opportunity for young people and youth organization to connect, share and exchange views.

It will enable active engagement and exchanges between the YSB, decision-makers, the EU Delegation and its Member States.

According to the Charge d’Affaires at the EU delegation to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Mr. Alexandre Borges Gomes, the EU-YSB will allow young people to influence the policies and programmes of the EU in Nigeria, “thereby contributing to making EU action more participatory, relevant and effective for the large young population in Nigeria.”

The board urges its delegations in Nigeria to create avenue for youth participation and empowerment on issues such as education, employment, entrepreneurship and training, environment and climate change, human rights and democracy, peace and security, digitalization and technology, gender, social inclusion and health, culture, art, media and journalism respectively.

Alongside the 25 young Nigerian members, Ms. Atanda will help in shaping and implementing EU’s strategies in Nigeria for two years.

Meanwhile, the Vice Chancellor of the Lagos State University, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, mni, has congratulated her on the feat and wished well in discharging her assignment.
